On the afternoon of July 15, 2025, the team invited Dr. Lihui Wei, Director of the Institute of Plant Protection at the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Dr. Han Xu, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, to deliver keynote presentations on "Research Advances in Major Diseases of Specialty Vegetables" and "Port Surveillance of Invasive Weeds," respectively. The event attracted dozens of faculty members, students, and researchers (Figure 1).

In the first presentation, Dr. Lihui Wei systematically reviewed the epidemiological patterns and latest advancements in green control technologies for specialty vegetable diseases in China, drawing on years of research experience. She highlighted her team’s patented technologies and expertise in formulating national and industry standards for integrated disease management in crops such as peppers, solanaceous fruits, and spices. She also shared forward-looking insights on precision disease monitoring and strategies for reducing pesticide use through enhanced biological control (Figure 2). Dr. Wei has led over 20 provincial and national projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has been honored with awards such as the Second Prize of the Shennong China Agricultural Science and Technology Award and the Jiangsu Science and Technology Progress Award. Her work has significantly contributed to the high-quality development of China's specialty vegetable industry.

Next, Dr. Han Xu discussed "Port Surveillance of Invasive Weeds," introducing cutting-edge monitoring technologies and standardized systems for plant quarantine at Chinese ports. He shared case studies on rapid detection, risk assessment, and reference sample development for invasive plants (Figure 3). Dr. Xu has identified over 100 plant species newly recorded in China and led the development of 14 international, national, and industry standards. His research provides critical technical support for enhancing plant product quality control and strengthening China’s biosecurity defenses.

Following the presentations, attendees engaged in lively discussions with the experts on key issues such as disease control in specialty vegetables and early warning systems for invasive plants. Participants agreed that the forum not only provided cutting-edge insights into green pest management and port biosecurity but also fostered interdisciplinary collaboration and technology transfer opportunities.
The Plant Protection Academic Forum Series will continue to invite renowned domestic and international scholars to address major scientific challenges and industry needs in plant protection, contributing to agricultural modernization and food security. Faculty and students are warmly welcomed to join future events.
