China-Central Asia Forum on “Monitoring, Early Warning, and Control of Agricultural and Forestry Pests and Diseases” Host by NWAFU

On December 9th, the China-Central Asia Forum on Monitoring, Early Warning, and Control of Agricultural and Forestry Pests and Diseases was held at our university, attracting over 100 participants from universities and research institutes both domestically and internationally.

The forum was sponsored by the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology and co-organized by the Science and Technology Association of Northwest A&F University, Shaanxi Society for Plant Pathology, and the College of Plant Protection. Expert scholars from participating countries gathered to discuss monitoring, early warning, and control strategies for agricultural and forestry pests and diseases, aiming to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance pest management capabilities, and safeguard regional food security and ecological balance.During the forum, Professor Tinatin Doolotkeldieva from Kyrgyz State Agricultural University and Professor Altyn Shayakhmetova from North Kazakhstan University exchanged views on pest management in Kyrgyzstan and full-feed production technologies for forest-steppe forage lands in northern Kazakhstan, respectively. Professor Hu Xiaoping, President of Shaanxi Society for Plant Pathology, conducted an in-depth analysis and presentation on the opportunities and challenges of plant pest and disease monitoring and early warning. Researchers including Liu Wei from the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as well as Professors He Hong and Associate Professor Li Yuxiang from our university, delivered academic reports on research progress in monitoring and early warning for pests and diseases such as wheat powdery mildew, pine wilt disease, and wheat powdery mildew. Additionally, reports were given by Dr. Raushan Moldakhmetova and Dr. Moldakhmetov Ansagay from Kazakhstan, and Dr. Umer Yousuf from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, covering monitoring, early warning, and integrated management of pests and diseases.The hosting of this forum not only provided a platform for exchange and learning between China and Central Asian countries but also brought new perspectives and ideas to China's monitoring, early warning, and control efforts for agricultural and forestry pests and diseases. Furthermore, through this forum, all parties reached a consensus to strengthen cooperation, share resources, and jointly enhance regional pest control capabilities, laying a solid foundation for the in-depth development of agricultural cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
